This is our six-jack die separator model DS9806 equipped with our standard jack sets "C" and "D":

This machine has a 10.4 inch diagonal measure touch-display screen which prompts the operator with specific warnings and instructions applicable to the operation of the machine. It is not necessary for the operator to be familiar with the machine prior to using it. Step-by-step instructions appear on the screen, allowing novice operators to begin operating the machine immediately. The number is jacks to be used is selected, then the use of the machine to open a closed die, or level a jammed or out of parallel die, is selected. Then the appropriate operating instructions appear on the screen for the operator to follow. There are two emergency action buttons that appear on the touch screen when the machine is operating...one stops the motor and pump and closes all valves freezing the machine in position. The other immediately begins retracting the jacks and resetting the machine.
This machine can operate either four or six jacks, and the number of jacks to be used is selectable by the operator at the time the operator is ready to work with the die. As with the four-jack Die Separator, this machine can operate any jack set, and will automatically detect which jack set is connected, without any operator input needed.
The following jack sets are available:
Closed Minimum Maximum
Set name height Stroke weight cap. weight cap.
A 4" 1-1/2" 6000 lbs. 80,000 lbs.
B 6" 3-1/4" 2200 lbs. 28,000 lbs.
C 6" 3-1/4" 6000 lbs. 80,000 lbs.

E 6" 3-1/8" 12,000 lbs. 160,000 lbs.
Other size jack sets can be special ordered.
The jacks and hoses are equipped with quick-disconnects to rapidly change jack sets. The Die Separator automatically senses which jack set is connected and loads the appropriate operating parameters for that jack set.

Here's a shot of the Model DS9806 Die Separator in service at Autodie International in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with the location of the four jacks that can be seen outlined. The two jacks that cannot be seen are in the far side, in the center and the far corner. This die had been sagging 6/10ths of an inch in the center, which was binding the die when it was being opened using four jacks, one in each corner. This binding was being overcome by using jacks with twice the normal weight capacity on a four jack Die Separator. With the six jack Die Separator the die can be opened parallel, easily and without any binding or damage, with lower weight capacity jacks.

The display screen on the machine shows the operator a lot of information!
Hydraulic pressure and percentage of jack travel are displayed in bar graph format for easy visibility at a distance. There is also an emergency stop button that freezes the machine if necessary.
The machine also automatically calculates the weight of the die half within approximately 3% and displays the results...
